Hundreds of stressors confront us on a daily basis; everything from meeting daily deadlines to the hassles of traffic. Whether you realize it or not, stress affects all bodily systems and is estimated to either initiate or aggravate 80% of all our disease burdens. The chemicals our body releases due to stress affect everything from our choice (or craving) of foods to our immune system. In fact, stress is estimated to directly or indirectly account for 75-90% of all doctor visits. Unless a person addresses the whole person including stressors, immediate goals such as making nutrition changes, starting a fitness program, or smoking cessation, are less likely to be successful on a long-term basis.
